Tono
The quartet from Rio de Janeiro was founded in 2007 and released its first CD, “Tono Auge” two years later. Formed by Rafael Rocha (drums and vocals), Ana Cláudia Lomelino (vocals), Bem Gil (guitar) and Bruno Di Lullo (bass), Tono has “an unmistakable sound that seems to come effortlessly, light and relaxed,” according to Arto Lindsay in the blurb he wrote about the band.
In 2010, the second eponymous album was released on the label Oi Música. All of the songs on it are composed by the group, with the exception of “Nega Música” by Itamar Assumpção. The range of genres goes easily from samba to rock, with a touch of northeastern rhythms and ballads. Simplicity and virtuosity.
Another highlight of the group is the dialogue between the sweet voice of Ana Cláudia and the sometimes mischievous, sometimes energetic tones of Rafael. This added to the hearty vocals of the three guys, Bruno’s bass groove, and Bem’s rhythm comprises Tono’s very characteristic sound.
