Nicolas Krassik & Os Cordestinos + Carlos Malta
Nicolas Krassik was born on the outskirts of Paris and began playing the violin at five years of age. He had classical training and studied classical music and jazz for over 15 years. He worked for eight years in Europe, where he played with musicians such as Didier Lockwood, Pierrick Hardy, Michel Pettrucciani and Vincent Courtois.
He arrived in Rio de Janeiro in 2001 and was impressed by the city. He soon settled in and showed that he could master typically Brazilian genres like samba, choro and forró. He worked alongside Yamandu Costa, Carlos Malta, Gilberto Gil, Beth Carvalho and João Bosco, among others. He also played with Gilberto Gil in the show “Fé na Festa,” with songs from the Juninho and São João repertoires, which ended up in both CD and DVD formats.
Nicolas has released the albums “Na Lapa”, “Caçuá”, “Odilê, Odilá” and “Nicolas Krassik e Cordestinos,” a project which brings him to B2B 2011 alongside the band composed of Marcos Moletta (fiddle), Guto Wirtti (contrabass) Carlos Cesar (percussion) and Chris Mourão (Zabumba). The repertoire is dedicated to northeastern rhythms and features his own material as well as songs from giants such as Hermeto Pascoal, Dominguinhos, Sivuca and Luiz Gonzaga.
The musician’s concert will feature Carlos Malta. Known as “Sculptor of the Wind”, Malta plays several instruments such as saxophone, flute and bass. He is also a producer, music teacher and songwriter. Malta has shared the stage with Bobby McFerrin, Dave Mathews Band, Michel Legrand, Roberto Carlos e Caetano Veloso, among many other artists. In his solo career, he has released more than 10 albuns and toured in a dozen countries.
