Rhythm has always been a part of his life. Charles Gavin began playing drums at the age of 19. He was a member of various bands including Ira! and RPM before joining Titãs (the Titans) in 1985, when the group was recording its second album.

In addition to a long career as a drummer, Charles became involved in different areas of the musical arts scene. He has been producing records since the late 80′s and is a compulsive collector of rare vinyl records. The hobby has grown into a side job, and he was in charge of the re-release of out of print albums from artists like Tom Zé, Lady Zu and Novos Baianos, besides organizing collections for some labels.

Being a researcher, he conceived and produced the”300 Most Important Records in Brazilian Music” project, which resulted in a book written in collaboration with Tárik de Souza, Carlos Calado and Artur Dapieve. The book is a historical account and shows the main Brazilian music albums from 1929 to 2007.

After twenty-five years together, Charles left the Titans in February 2010. Since 2007, he has been hosting “O Som do Vinil” (The Sound of Vinyl) show on Canal Brasil.
