Fado marked the creation of Ana Moura, but it didn’t prevent her from first becoming a rock vocalist. The Stones may even have lost a great successor, we don’t know; but there is no doubt that fate won and how.

In 2003, Ana Moura released her first CD, “Guarda-me a vida,” and the theme “Sou do fado, sou fadista” became an instant classic. Her next piece, “Aconteceu” generated tours outside of Portugal. For this project, she received the Edison Prize in the Netherlands and in the United States she was crowned as the first Portuguese artist to perform on stage at Carnegie Hall in New York.

Another milestone of her career was being chosen by Tim Ries, Rolling Stones saxophonist and producer of “The Rolling Stones Project,” to participate on two tracks of that album, in which artists covered versions of those previous hits. With the success of the project, it was the Stones’ turn to return the favor, going to Ana’s show to see up close the successor whom they had lost to fado. The result was that they invited her to sing with them in front of 40,000 people the following day in Portugal.

In 2007, she released “Para além da saudade,” for which she also recorded a live DVD which spent 120 weeks on top of the national charts and earned her a double-platinum record. Her most recent album, “Leva-me aos fados,” hails the participation of singer Fernando Jorge and special guests. Earlier this year, Anna shared the stage with Prince, the main attraction of B2B 2011, at a festival in Portugal. They played the song “Walk in Sand,” written by the American pop icon in honor of the singer and her homeland.

Ana’s concert in B2B will be joined by Gilberto Gil.
