Aloe Blacc
Aloe Blacc released his first solo album, “Shine Through,” in 2006. Prior to that, he had recorded EP’s and a complete album with DJ Exile as part of the hip hop duo Emanon. Blacc had been an MC since his school days.
In September 2010, the soulful young man released his second album, “Good Things,” and won rave reviews around the globe. Among the accolades, Blacc was compared with giants of black music such as Sam Cook, Curtis Mayfield and Marvin Gaye. The single “I Need A Dollar,” a song full of groove that deals with the economic downturn, became a hit and was used as the opening song of the HBO show “How to Make It In America.”
Backed up by his talented band, The Grand Scheme, Blacc makes a sound that hearkens back to the golden days of Motown. “Good Things” also generated two cover versions of songs that caused people to talk: “Femme Fatale”, by Velvet Revolver and the Michael Jackson classic “Billie Jean”. With the death of the King of Pop, Blacc’s video version on YouTube was one of the most requested in the world.
